Passion By Numbers

I believe that Numerology is one of many available tools that can help us find our purpose in life.  We're all here for a reason, to serve a higher purpose in some way.  Your purpose can be as grand as leading an entire nation or as hands-on as serving homeless persons at a shelter.  Not all of us are meant to perform strict service to society at large.  Maybe your talent will be utilized within your community, or even your family.  The key is to find something that comes natural to you, that you enjoy doing and do well, and that contributes positively to the lives of others.

Similar to your astrological Sun sign, your Life Path (or Destiny) number represents your soul's essence.  While your birth chart has other numbers that define your personality/character (we'll cover some of these in later articles), your life path number is the most important.  Calculate your life path number by adding all of the digits in your birthday, then take the sum and reduce it to a single digit (keep adding double digits together until you reach a single digit).  For example, my birthday is 8-24-1976, which is broken down into 8 + 6 + 23 = 37 = 10 = 1.  My life path number is a 1.  The only exceptions are the master numbers--11 and 22.  If the sum of your birthday equals one of these numbers, they are not to be reduced to a single digit.

Once you've computed your life path number, learn more about its basic vibration.  You'll want to find ways to incorporate these concepts into everyday life, whether it be through your job, a hobby, a volunteer effort, community involvement, your family, and so on.

1 - Leader, creative, expressive, self-sufficient, innovative, autonomous, original.  Many inventors, leaders, teachers, and writers follow the 1 life path.
2 - Partner, cooperative, supportive, compassionate, meticulous, organized--2s work best in supportive roles, behind the scenes, and within teams.  Public relations, administration, and counseling are great areas for 2s to concentrate.
3 - Passionate, artistic, performer, outgoing, optimistic--3s feel best when they tap into their creativity and apply it to everyday living.  Careers in entertainment, health, beauty, communication, and the arts come natural to them.
4 - Builder, planner, methodical, responsible, ambitious, disciplined--4s are all about planning, preparing, and working hard to reach a goal.  Any vocation requiring method and craftsmanship suits the 4 vibration.  Athletics and sportsmanship are ruled by the 4 energy.  Many 4s also work in the healing profession.
5 - Free spirit, adventurous, risky, assertive, independent--5s employ some level of risk in everything they do.  They want to travel the world to find answers to life's most perplexing questions.  Well rounded and worldly, many 5s pursue work in travel, sales, as critics, or international trades.
6 - Family oriented, domestic, provider, fair, justice oriented--The 6 carries a nurturing energy that transfers to fields involving medicine, civil service, social work, and counseling.  6s want to give of themselves to improve the lives of others.
7 - Spiritual, inquisitive, consciousness, self exploration, intuitive--The goal of the 7 life path is to tap into their inner consciousness, develop their own spirituality, and reconcile it with the outer world.  Many 7s teach and rely on spiritual/healing modalities (ie yoga, meditation).  7s have great investigative skills and make good detectives, researchers, and writers.  They take a strong interest in matters of the occult.
8 - Wealth, material abundance, ambition, entrepreneurship--8s are here to establish material stability, affluence, and give back.  Many CEOs, professional athletes, tycoons, and business owners have this placement.
9 - Altruistic, wise, humanitarian, inspirational, compassionate, charismatic--Many philanthropists, benefactors, political leaders, and nonprofit founders exude this vibration.  They're here to contribute to society in a profound way.

11 or 22 - These are considered the "master" numbers. they carry greater significance and responsibility.  11s are highly intuitive, empathic, and are here to share their spiritual insights through some form of creative expression.  22s are hardworking, methodical master builders who make meaningful contributions to society at large.

I believe that maintaining a close relationship to God, through prayer, is the best route toward realizing and fulfilling your passion.  However, I also believe that God expects us to help ourselves.  We can't just sit idle, pray, and wait for opportunities to fall into our laps.  It takes a proactive approach and a lot of patience.  I didn't realize my calling overnight.  It took solitude, introspection, and a willingness to expand beyond my comfort zone.  Discerning your life path number can certainly point you in the right direction.
